It's been a year where young lovers have broken up due to lock down. Most teenage girls are insecure, sensitive and clingy. The song is directed at that niche market and resonates with them mostly so they download on mass. The melody is extremely basic (mirrored by her playing a child's keyboard in the video). The melody has no memorable appeal or presence, but her voice is hauntingly vulnerable and lonely. Adele's been writing broken relationship songs for years. It's an easy win if you know how to do it. Well done to her for not writing another dizzy, silly love song.
