Time to make a laser sword hilt! Adam takes a cylinder of aluminum stock and walks us through how he machined his first replica of Luke's lightsaber from Return of the Jedi. In the spirit of revisiting his early propmaking efforts, Adam only uses one found photo for reference and explains how to extrapolate details from an image to usable measurements for propmaking. It's a build that goes through some unexpected turns, and ends up being a different One Day Build journey than Adam intended!

Dam just do a print screen then paste it into paint, if you're not using windows then can't help you don't use any apple products since I don't need to overpay for just a name

I think sir you would benefit from a laser level. Would help greatly doing them angles. Also imagine a robot laser level remote controlled so you can move the center and raise up and down :D

Try using Adobe acrobat reader. I use it for tattooing big pieces. If you put the image in acrobat the size you want it there’s an option in printing for posters. It will divide the image onto 8x11.5 paper. Hope this helps

You can stick an image in Excel and set the dimensions of the image in inches, If you set the margins to 0 and the print scale to 100% you should get a good tiling of the image without needing photo software

Ooh yes: Adam SaLvage! Contrary to what you mostly see online and on social media, everything is perfect. Been watching you for years and dearly love to hear and see you explain when things go wrong. Learn from it, sometimes we don’t. But at least you keep showing your mistakes. I have to admit that still I sometimes make the same mistakes you already showed. Thanks for being so motivational. What a massive work around to get to that size. Photoshop or any free foto software would have saved 9:12 minutes. Rule a build in ruler, size it up, enlarge the picture, print it sideways to fit.

It's funny hearing Adam say that this build is taking him back to someplace in his past. As a kid I would watch Mythbusters on tv any chance I could and watching these videos brings me back to those days. Since then, I've been to college, gotten a degree in robotics and a minor in manufacturing, and landed multiple jobs as a prototype machinist. In that light, watching these videos is very different because I now understand the issues and thought processes Adam describes because I've been through them on a daily basis.

9:46 issue with that is that images are described in Pixels most of the time and a Pixel doesn't translate to real world measurements. Closest thing would be to take a program like Photoshop and make a canvas of a certain size (in cm or inches) and use that to split up your image.

I don't think Adam got the dimensions wrong based on the photo, but rather scaled his photo incorrectly based on dimensions he found online I.E. the 11.75inches he found off a website

Most software given the percentage scale you can do it inside of the software then use the print settings to print the right size. Photoshop can also print on multiple pieces of paper, I believe it's a print option to "not scale".

@AdamSavage... I am a computer programmer.. You can go onto Fiver and get someone to create that software for it. It will cost a bit more than a fiver, but a dev is about $300 a day.. That won't take more than 2 days max.

Adam I use MS Excel. Insert the picture into a blank spreadsheet and set the print margins as 0 and Excel will tile it perfectly for you.

10:00 It sounds like something that could be done with "The Print Shop" for DOS in the 80's and 90's. We mostly used it for printing multi-page banners on a dot matrix printer......but I think you could also import graphics. Broderbund makes an updated, modern, version for PC & Mac....but I cannot vouch for these newer versions. It really sounds like what you want is a plotter or at the very least a large-format printer (with a continuous feed). The plotters (like used with CAD software) are intended to print across multiple pages.

3:55 A website can use javascript to prevent right-clicks (which does not allow you to save an image using the context-menu). So, it is really your browser preventing you from downloading....because that is a client-side scripting feature. It is extremely trivial to stop javascript from blocking right-clicks. Heck, you can even use local proxies, etc, to lift stuff (or everything) right off the wire, or even pull it right from your browser's cache.
